Battle of Croatia - Fremantle Croatia v Western Knights

Well as usual wanted to see some football but it wouldn't be right if I went to the game on time now would it? Went down to Nash Field in Mosman Park to watch the Football West Coolridge Cup (FA Cup style competition for the viewers at home) and well as usual the game was lop sided and the venue isn't to the future National Premier League standard but I am only there for one thing, the food.

The food at Western Knights home games is basically the sole reason people would put up with painful football and awkward park football environment. Sure there are the stock standard range of crisps, hot chips and hot dogs and pies; but it isn't these that are the draw cards. I am sure people have sampled these delights before on their travels much like myself but the Ćevapi is basically worth driving halfway across town to taste.

Their chevapi burgers, cup of chevapi and chevapi burgers with patty is simply mouth-watering stuff. The cup of chevapi is rather simple. A chip cup filled with 6 chevaps but with no sauce which is a shame. However the flavours of the chevapi are so delicious that you don't need to have it with sauces. The burger with the three chevapi served with lettuce, tomato and onion is another treat at Nash Field. The vegetables are fresh and combined with the fresh burger bun gives it that special touch while watching some dour football. The burger with the chevapi patty is very much the same as the burger with the three sausages but they add sauces of your choice; tomato or barbeque.

The quality of the football there is generally poor for state league level but the foot is absolutely fantastic. I recommend that you go just for the food and drinks. I give the food here 8.9/10.

A Tale of Two Cities

After watching some Western Australian Football League (WAFL as it is called) earlier in the day it was decided to visit a division one match between Canning City and Mandurah City behind Southlands shopping centre at Burrendah Park.

The facilities at Burrendah Park are rather impressive with cricket, aussie rules, tennis and baseball being played here as well as many other sports due to this venue being home to a rather large multi sports club.

With the game being rather entertaining for no result until the last 5 minutes of the game with Canning opening the scoring, then Mandurah with a penalty only to have Canning steal the points with and injury time winner.

This match was further capped off with cheap drinks as cool drinks were 2 dollars and beers were 6 dollars. Now for first division that is excellent and for Perth prices, even better.

With myself thoroughly pleased with the reasonably priced drinks and the impressive display on the park I was won over with the burgers on offer. First and foremost the burger was fresh from top to bottom. I know that seems a bit hard to comprehend but let me finish. The burger bun was nice and soft with a melting sensation as you pierced the bread as you sunk into it to savour the flavours of what were inside. Seemed to me that the bread was bought literally hours before kick off and the rest of the burger seemed to be just that. The lettuce, tomato and onion were delicious and I am no fan of onion so for me to happily consume a burger with onion or anything with large slices of onion for that matter was a huge seal of approval. The addition of sauces of your choice, tomato, mustard and barbeque sauces made my mouth water with all the flavours being enjoyed by my taste buds.

The beef patty itself was on the small side which was a shame but the patty was cooked just right to not have it tasting like jerky (which I do like) or to have it so undercooked that it is still pining for the pastures of the south west of Western Australia. Another tick on this burger's report card was the price. 5 dollars was great value for this venue and to have it topped off with a beer or cider/spirits made it a fantastic addition to the day out watching the football.

My rating? 9.1/10 with points lost on the patty size and shame it couldn't be capped off with some pickle to add a touch of grace. So head down to Burrendah Park and sink your teeth into a burger and enjoy it with a cold beverage.
