Subiaco Take East Perth's Crown

Went to Leederville Oval to watch the opening round of the Western Australian Football League (WAFL) between the Subiaco Lions and the East Perth Royals. For those who have not seen any Australian rules football before, games like this are great examples to watch as entry is considerably lower than going to an AFL game and there is more of a community feel to these games.

Well the game was nothing really to write home about from an East Perth perspective, as it was all one way traffic in favour of Subiaco. They dominated the game from the first bounce-down to the final siren. East Perth were just thoroughly lack-lustre in quite possibly the worst performance I have ever seen. The final score was a whopping 29 goals,14 points and 188 points. To East Perth's 10 goals, 10 points and 70 points.

As I had a function afterwards I wasnt having too many but I bought a Carlton Draught for 7 dollars which wasnt too bad and there were a range of full strength beers on tap at the bar. However, you have to be careful which bar you enter as East Perth have a bar there too and prices can possibly vary. This is because Leederville Oval is the home ground of East Perth and Subiaco.

Sydney Steals the Glory

Sydney FC the defending A-League champions visited Perth on a rather warm evening and really took Perth to school. It was thoroughly embarrassing to watch but I guess nothing new of 13 years of mediocrity from the Glory. Perth were just never in the contest and Sydney Ran out 3-0 winners. The only highlight was once again Kenny Lowe jumping up and down, screeching and looking thoroughly animated but it was, like always all bark and no bite. Sometimes I often question why I keep going? But I love football and sport and so I must be a sucker for punishment.

As the prices at the stadium are high I did avoid buying food or drink on this occasion. Although sometimes I wish it was like in America where someone walks up and down the aisles and you ask for food/drink.

Perth Silence Subiaco

Perth SC hosted Subiaco AFC on a cool evening of National Premier Leagues WAU football at the always fantastic Dorrien Gardens. It was a rather simple affair all game with Perth controlling the game from start to finish but failing to capitalise on the dominance over their visitors.
There were brief moments where Subiaco would push against the run of play and venture up the park into their attacking half but there was no great threat of the visitors from scoring. Perth ended up closing with 3 goals to nil.

On this occasion I tried the chips and gravy. They were very tasty and the gravy was very good. Although perhaps a bit more gravy could have done the trick. Towards the end of eating the chips they were stuck together so that was a bit of a problem. The chips had the right amount of salt and was at a flat 5 dollars so no complaints there. The portion was very good.

Beer of choice tonight was Peroni. Peroni went down like a treat and at 8 bucks it went down smoothly on a fantastic night of football.
I always enjoy my time watching football at Dorrien and hopefully I can venture there soon!
