Clash of Sticks at Bayswater

Decided to try something different. In fact it was completely different but I'd have to say is one of Bayswater's hidden gems and people should know a bit more about it I think.

Halliday Park is home of Bayswater's team in the Western Australian Lacrosse League and they played host to Wanneroo in the men's state league. The contest was very heated and what may come as a complete shock to people unfamiliar to lacrosse it seemed the incredibly swift, sharp and often violent strikes on players was 'situation normal' all in the aim of dislodging the ball of the lacrosse stick.

The match was thoroughly entertaining with Wanneroo winning the game 5 to 12 despite a late surge from Bayswater yet wasn't enough to turn around the margin.

Food and drink at the place was very enjoyable. That is part of why I said it was a hidden gem. Nachos made fresh as you order for 4 dollars which is worth the price and better than most at pubs which charge around 3 times more which is a joke. Toasted sandwiches were 3 dollars and although on the small side in regards to being pressed incredibly thinly were still very tasty.

Drinks were value for money too with beers around 3 to 4 dollars with spirits at 6.50 which was the usual Jack Daniel's, Canadian Club and similarly popular ready to drink spirit varieties.

I would highly recommend anyone in the Bayswater area to take some time out to visit and just enjoy what Halliday Park has to offer.

Bayswater Back to Back Cup Wins

Today was the 2014 Football West Coolridge Cup Final played between defending winners Bayswater City and Stirling Lions at Macedonia Park in a cool but then blustery and wet conditions.
Anthem was played and formalities took place and then it was ready for the final. Bayswater were in control of the game from start to finish with two early goals in the first half with the men from Frank Drago failing to capitalise on some open scoring opportunities. Stirling had a few chances late in the game but they were not many and just failed to get clear shots on goal being shut down on the edge of the box.

Bayswater ending up 2-0 winners and as a result winning back to back state cup finals, well done Bayswater.

Food was a bit of an issue here at Macedonia Park due to being a cup final and well I think the grounds are not truly prepared for the amount who come and watch. On average there was about a 30 minute wait so i didn't end up getting food. No olives or feta by the bar as it got devoured by the fans and were not replenished which was a shame but it was rather busy so these things fell off the radar.

Selection of drinks were always in plentiful supply and had Beez Neez for 9 dollars but for a 440 ml can of Canadian Club & Dry for 10 dollars i switched to those instead for a change.

Must give a plug to the Mighty Quinn as I decided to go there after the match for a meal. Bangers and Mash for 19 dollars was on the money and the serving was good, incredibly delicious and a fantastic venue inside. You wouldn't know it was by looking at the outside!

Well another cup final has been put to bed and now the rest of the NPLWAU is now the focus of Stirling and Bayswater. Macedonia Park is always a great venue to watch some good football.

Bayswater Hold On

Decided to venture down to Frank Drago Reserve the home of Bayswater City SC to watch another of my favourite National Premier Leagues WA conference side Stirling Lions play. With Bayswater dominating the top end of the competition it was good to see it was not all one way traffic for the boys in black and blue.

Despite Bayswater opening the scoring and as a result the only score for the match it wasn't all comfortable for the home side as Stirling were relentless in the second half and within the last 10 or 15 minutes were really putting Bayswater under the pump. With some one-on-ones and some squandered chances Stirling couldn't find the equaliser and the result was 1-0 to Bayswater.

Food was once again very good at Bayswater although they must have known i was coming and some burgers were already pre-made. There can be a bit of a rush on the bank so to speak sometimes at Bayswater so being prepared is always a good thing although you do tend to lose out on the freshness of the burger it was still very delicious. Hot-dogs were a bit average this time a real disappointment.

But if you are wanting to have a few beverages and enjoy some good NPLWAU football then you cannot go past Bulmers Cider, pear or apple varieties that are cheaper than pub prices. 9 dollars is a steal for these and always goes down smooth watching a game.
